|
|||||
| If we accept that sewers will be in place at least in the core commercial area and the Freeland Sub Area Plan (FSAP) has been adopted by the County, how do we address the following issues? Critical Areas How do we best protect our wetlands? What is happening to our Harbor? Parks & Gathering Places How do we expand what we have? Identify new areas? Implement? Land Use Planning/Density How can we increase population density downtown? Do we want to increase the areas designated for light manufacturing? Does the FSAP have the right zoning? Affordable Housing Where can we build affordable housing? What sources of financing are available? How do we ensure our lower paid employees can live in the community? Community Schools Should we be looking at smaller local schools? Should we have a post secondary training facility in partnership with local businesses and Skagit College? SR 525 Corridor What can we do to promote our community more effectively? Traffic What can we do to reduce traffic problems? Walkability and Pedestrian Safety What can we do to make downtown a more walkable area? What do we need to do to improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety Parking Where can we put centralized parking for central district shoppers? Downtown Revitalization How do we improve our economic infrastructure without losing our uniqueness? What type of businesses do we want to attract? How will our changing demographics impact our retail/service economy? Pathways How do we get more connecting pathways and trails throughout town? Incorporation Should Freeland be a city? Infrastructure What can we do to have all our utilities underground? Look and Feel (Appearance) We don't want to be another Leavenworth, but what do we want? This isn't just about design standards, what do we want our community to look like? Tourism What can we do to promote our community more effectively? How do we increase our tourism quotient without becoming another Langley? Technology What are the technologies of the future that will impact our community? How do we prepare for them? Take advantage of them? |
